A few quick notes before the weekend starts.

Our catalogs are back from the printer.  Later than we had originally hoped, we apologize, but they’re ready now.  We’re mailing copies out to everyone, if you want extras, just ask for some with your next order.

We received two new skates earlier today from Vanilla.  The Latte is a new color scheme for their Vanilla Junior, see below for the pic.  The Loco Verde is their new higher end inline speed skate.  Both are just arriving, more details soon.

Powell-Bones is adding a purple color to their Team wheels.  These are not in stock yet, but should be by the end of February.

 

Sure-Grip is adding a new higher end quad speed wheel called the Monza.  This one will be several weeks out, but we wanted to let you know about them ahead of time.  They’ll come in purple, red, grey, or teal.

 

Tour Hockey has several new inline hockey skates.  These are available now.

 

66TA Code 7 – Tour Force indoor/outdoor wheels, Bevo Silver 5 bearings.  The boot has Tuff Skin exterior, memory foam, and thermolayer construction.  Sizes 5-13.

 

64TA Code 5 – Many of the same features as the 66TA skate, but with Tour Flow indoor/outdoor wheels.  Sizes 5-13.

 

88TA Code 3 – Labeda Gripper wheels, Bevo Gold 9 bearings.  The boot has ARC Tongue, Accu-Aire Ventilation System, and custom surlan structural support.  Sizes 5-13, with half sizes from 7 ½ to 10 ½.

We received a new shipment from Tour of some higher end quad boots and skate packages.
Primo – Blue and white or grey and black boots.  With a Velcro lace cover and metal hooks (similar to Oberhamer) for the top of the boot.  AMQ nylon reinforced plates.  Fresh Swag wheels (white) with Gold 7 rated bearings.  Whole sizes 4-13.

Inferno – Solid black boots with a mesh type material on the sides.  Also has the metal hooks at the top of the boot.  Sizes 4-13, with halves from 5 ½ to 10 ½.

Stomp 1 – A new version of the Stomp 1 boots, in black with red or black with platinum (silver-grey).  Sizes 4-13, with halves from 5 ½ to 10 ½.

Forte – A black boot with red and white accents.  Two Velcro straps across the top of the laces.  Sizes 4-13, with halves from 5 ½ to 10 ½.

The new Sure-Grip 170RS “Super Rental” skates are getting good reviews from the rinks that have tried them.  The feedback we’re receiving has been overwhelmingly positive.  If your rentals need updating, this is a great time to make the investment with so many different rental options out there.  Give the Sure-Grip 170RS a good look if you’re going to be making updates to your rental fleet this year.

The APEX P1 skates are in stock.  This is a great option for smaller sizes, with the look of a true quad speed skate in colors that will appeal to your younger customers.

If you want to increase revenue at your skating center, special events are a great way to get skaters in the door. You can plan a Valentine’s Day Skate, host a community fundraiser, or plan a Princess and Plates tea party for moms and daughters this March. But once it’s on the calendar, what’s the best way to promote your event?

How to Promote a Skating Event

1. Social media. Where are your customers looking? Not at billboards, flyers, or magazine ads. They’re looking at their phones! Did you know that over 1 billion people log onto Facebook every day? Capture their attention with sneak previews, behind-the-scenes pictures, and videos from your last big holiday skating party.
2. Call on the community. Is there a non-profit organization you frequently donate to? Is there an elementary school event you could use to market your skate event? Look for opportunities in the community and partner with other organizations to get the word out.
3. Talk about it. After all, many of your customers are already on the skating floor! Don’t forget to make announcements about upcoming events, talk about holiday promotions during skating lessons, and tell your team to talk up the next big skating party.
4. Offer incentives like a discount for coming in costume, a 2-for-1 BOGO special, or a free skating pass to anyone who attends your special event. People love giveaways (and you’ll love the night’s snack bar profits).
5. Invest in novelty toys. Plastic crowns, bouncy balls, and novelty candy can take your event to the next level with minimal cost on your end. Make the effort to make your event extraordinary.

Give the Rink an Upgrade

For most skating centers, the highest source of revenue is birthday parties. Snacks and gaming are also great ways to boost skating profits. But in the end, it’s all about the experience of roller-skating. Is your skating center up to par? Ask yourself these questions.

1. Is my venue clean? Nobody wants to spend time at a dirty facility (or worse, send their kids to one). Make sure you don’t just clean regularly, but also deep-clean those stubborn stains that have been there since your grandparents owned the rink.
2. Does the layout make sense? Many skating facilities are family-owned, so the operators are already used to the weirdly curving wall through the middle of the snack area, or the roundabout hike to the skate rentals counter. Take an objective look at the layout and see if a simple renovation is in order.
3. Do I have great gear? In the end, faded carpets and an outdated design can be overlooked if your customers have fun. It’s all about the skating! You keep your Pro Shop stocked with the latest and greatest skates available, but when was the last time you replaced your skate rentals? Assess your stock for comfort, quality, and safety. If the skates been there since you took over the rink, it’s time to replace them.

We don’t usually do so many email blasts, blog entries, etc, all in one day, but the Apex skates just arrived.  They’re unloading them now, and they look great.  Pink or black (with green).  Sizes 10J-5.

 

The Monopoly people are doing an online vote to help decide which new token to add to the game.  One of the most popular games ever, still played by millions, sold in stores all over the world.  And a roller skate is one of the options.  Consider voting for the skate.  Ask your customers to do the same.  Forward this email and this link to as many people as possible.  Imagine the publicity that would be generated if this went viral and roller skating won the thing. . .
