The Sure-Grip Stardust skates are starting to arrive.  We now have the pink and blue versions in stock, and the black one should arrive very soon.  These skates have a vinyl boot with a glitter design that is pretty unique.  The plates are the Sure-Grip Rock.  The wheels are 62mm indoor/outdoor wheels with ABEC3 bearings.

The blue and pink versions come in sizes 3-9.  The black ones are sizes 4-11.

Finger fidget spinners have definitely been the hottest toy craze we’ve seen in several years.  Right now we have the basic version, the bat wing version, and the emoji design versions in stock and ready to ship.

Atom’s Poison is a popular wheel, especially with derby skaters.  They’re introducing a new version called the Poison Savant.  This version has a larger hub and less urethane than the standard Poison.  This gives it a faster roll and a lighter weight.  We have green and pink versions in stock now.  They’re working on black, blue, and purple versions that should be available soon.  The wheels are 59mm.

Starting a business is exciting as well as scary–there are so many different things to think about. Here at Southeastern Skate Supply, we have a pretty good handle on all that you need to know before you open a roller skating rink. Here’s a short list of some of the major things you need to consider when making your business plan. Remember that a full list of subjects, with in-depth coverage of each, can be found in our Roller Skating Business Resource Manual.  

• Capital. How are you going to gather the initial investment to start your business and keep it running until it starts to turn a profit? Savings? Loans from the bank? Investors? A combination of factors? This often requires a substantial amount of money, so make sure you are totally clear on where it’s coming from.
• Building, Flooring, Lights and Sound Equipment. These are by far your biggest expenses, and the most important decisions you’ll make. How your skating rink looks and whether the equipment works is going to determine how customers respond to it, and whether or not they come back. 
• The Snack Bar. Food service brings its own challenges, including complicated health and safety regulations, dozens of vendors, seasonal variation, and changing trends and competition.
• Safety and Security. Don’t overlook this important subject, or leave it for last! When you’re starting a business for families, you need to really think about how you’re going to help those families stay safe.

As we all know, business in skating rinks is a bit slower during the summer season. Families take vacations and day cares are watching all of the kids. There are several things you can do during this down time to either bring people in or get ready for your next busy season. Here are 3 things you can do to stay busy this summer.

1. Create Summer Discounts & Deals

To get more people into your skating rink this summer you have to give them the deal of a lifetime. It may be a good idea to have a different deal every day of the week. You also should target certain audiences. Most kids are at day cares or churches during the week. Create daily activities that attract those groups. You could set up a discount for day cares that bring 10 or more kids to skate. Maybe offer a free slice of pizza to skaters around lunch time. Focus on keeping things new, exciting, and CHEAP!

2. Clean & Sanitize

Use this dead time to clean up and reset your skating rink. Most rinks strive to provide a clean environment for kids, but you could use this time to really sort through your skates, replacing the grungy ones and deep cleaning the others.

3. Repair & Remodel

Check the walls and carpets and see if there are any small repairs that need to be done. If you have thought about adding any attractions or had any ideas for remodeling, this could be a great time to get those things done! Maybe you could expand your snack bar to offer a wider selection. Some skating rinks even add rock walls and playgrounds to give kids other options while there.

We do take pre-orders for any of these, so that you’ll be shipped as soon as they arrive, please call or email to get on the list.  The last few shpiments have been 12 pieces to a box, 192 pieces to a case, but we can do any quantity you need.

Sure-Grip is working on a new high-top skate called the Stardust.  It will come in three colors (seafoam, pink, or black) in sizes 3-10.  Each color has a glitter design on the boots.  We’re hoping to get them mid-June.  More details, including pricing, should be available soon.

We’re now carrying a new inline skate from Roller Derby.  The V-Tech-500 is an entry level adult adjustable inline skate.  There is a men’s version (black) and a women’s version (white with purple).  The skate fits sizes 6-9.

Skating rinks have always been known as a fun place to spend the summer. Students are finally out of school, but they still want to see and spend time with all of their friends. As owners of skating rinks it can be tough to get people away from the pool and into the skating rink. To help you out, today’s blog features five ways to get summer skaters into your rink.

1. Offer a summer skating pass

While attending the skating rink can be fun a couple of times throughout the summer, it can take a hit on the wallet if your patrons have to pay every time they skate. Our first idea is to have a summer pass they can purchase that gets them into the rink for a weekly or monthly fee. They pay the fee up front and then have unlimited skating from there.

2. Offer a rewards program

If you see the same faces in your rink often, it may be a good idea to reward those frequent skaters. Create a program where every fifth or tenth skating session is free. You will continue to make money and it will serve as an incentive to the skaters to get them to keep coming in.

3. Create new activities or events

Anytime a holiday or special event comes up, people are looking for a fun way to spend the day. If you had a Memorial Day event that is affordable, you would likely get more groups of people to attend.

4. Offer a shuttling service

The people that commonly come in to skate may not have their drivers license yet and might not live within walking distance. Offering a shuttle service to pick kids up and drop them off would help solve that problem and maybe even bring in some new faces.

5. Family package deals

For some of your clients, parents want to spend the day with their children. Offering a package deal and price that gets the whole family in would help create an atmosphere that is family friendly and could even get more people in. Once they are inside the rink, they might spend money on your other amenities, which would keep a good income.
