New Wheels from Roller Derby

Roller Derby’s Kemistry brand has a new line of inline wheels called the Suavis that have just arrived.  They come in several different versions:

New Inline Skates

Roller Derby has two new inline skates that have just arrived, the Beta and the Delta.  Both skates have aluminum frames, Bevo Gold 7 bearings, and a buckle and lace system.  The Beta has four 80mm wheels and is solid black.  The Delta has three 110mm wheels and is black with teal accents.

 

Tradeshow Notes

Our annual tradeshow is coming up on October 4 and 5, here at our Roanoke warehouse.  THIS SHOW IS FOR CUSTOMERS ONLY AND IS NOT OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

Here are some notes as we get ready.

 

The host hotel is the Courtyard Marriot.  Call them at 540-563-5002 for reservations and to get in on the group rate of $99.

 

So far on the vendor list we’ve got confirmations from Roces, RSA, Sure-Grip, and Powell-Bones.  They’ll have product samples, details on product releases and dates, and more.

 

The RSA is working on a meeting for Monday night at the host hotel.  They’ll have roundtable discussions, updates from their national office, and plans for their spring meeting.

 

They will also have a presentation from a gentleman named Richard Houston who is working on a tv gameshow program called “Skate Your Case”.  We met him briefly in Florida and it seems like a real interesting idea, with the possibility of some serious publicity for roller skating.

 

On Tuesday afternoon, as the show winds down, there will be a trip to the FunQuest rink in Lynchburg (now owned by Mason and Matt).

 

Please be sure to register if you plan to come so we’ll know how much food the caterer should prepare.

We plan to host our annual tradeshow this year on October 4 and 5. Obviously, with Covid, things could change at any moment. But right now Virginia is allowing gatherings, our caterer says they can do it, the hotel has blocked off some rooms, and everything looks good.

We’re working with the local RSA Chapter to have their traditional Monday night meeting at the hotel. As soon as we have more details on that we’ll let you know. Vendors have been invited and several have verbally committed.

Inventory does remain very limited and freight costs remain elevated. For example, we just talked with Chicago Skate, and our next container from them will be approximately $20,000 to get it from China to the Virginia port. Then probably another $1000-$2000 to get it to Roanoke. So that’s approximately $6-$7 in shipping costs per pair of skates to get them from China to our warehouse. Prices are very “fluid” and we completely expect more price increases from each of our vendors.

We strongly encourage anyone that plans to sell skates this Christmas season to place an order ahead of time. That way you’ll be near the top of the list once a good shipment does arrive. We’ve had several shipments from vendors arrive, but all of the skates were already sold before we even had a chance to offer any inventory to someone that wasn’t on the list ahead of time.

We have received a couple of different shipments this week with some items now back in stock.

Pacer Stratos – This is a very traditional looking high-top quad skate.  They are back in stock for the first time in a long time.

Boardwalk – We now have blue and pastel pink Boardwalk outdoor skates back in stock.

There are also a couple of shipments on the way to us.  We’re anticipating white Fame skates and lavender Boardwalk skates will be arriving soon, they’re on the road, headed towards us now.

We’re also hoping to get some of the Groovee tie-dye skates soon, they’re in the country, we’re just waiting for our shipment to get scheduled.

The Pacer skate shaped bags with the donut design are now back in stock. We had been out of these for a long time, but a big shipment just arrived.

 

A shipment from Sure-Grip with GT-50 skates is on the way, but it has been delayed a bit in Memphis. We had hoped to have these by now, they’re on the way, as soon as they do arrive we’ll let everyone know.

We received a shipment from Vanilla, but it was smaller than we hoped and backorders took up most of the popular sizes. Here is a list of what is remaining in stock, but it is all real small sizes:

We also have the Vintage rental skates back in stock. They originally had a toe stop issue, but they’ve fixed that by inserting a metal disk in the problem spot to reinforce everything. These are great looking traditional rental skates for a great low price. If you’re looking to upgrade your rental fleet, this is a great option at an incredible price. Sizes 12Jr through 12 adult now in stock.

We received a shipment from Vanilla and now have a few of their Junior skates in stock.  We didn’t get as many as we needed, we didn’t get all colors or sizes, but here is what we have right now.  Understand that for some of these sizes we only have one or two pair, so if you’re interested, please order quickly.  These are going to be strictly limited to our existing customers.

Vanilla let us know that they do have more skates made, but they are in China right now and the shipping situation is pretty bad.  Freight costs are double or triple what they normally would be to get something from China to the USA and demand is so strong that finding a container or space on a boat is a real struggle.  I would be shocked if we get more product from Vanilla before October, and that might be optimistic.

We have received several good shipments lately and a few more are coming. Here are some highlights:

Sure-Grip GT50 Skates – Sizes 1 through 12 are now in stock, except we do not have sz 4.

Pink Fame Skates – Sizes 4 through 10 are now back in stock.

Driftr Skates – Sizes 3 through 12 are now back in stock, except we do not have the sz 5.

Rewind Skates – Sizes 3 through 12 are now in stock.

Candi 774 Carlin Skates – Three new colors are now available. We have Green with Blue, Blue with Burgundy, and Peach with Pink. Each of those are in sizes 3 through 11.

Lucy Skates – Both sizes are now back in stock.

We also have several shipments on the way and should be getting Lavender Boardwalk skates, Black Stardust skates, and some more Sure-Grip and Bones wheels over the next week. As soon as they arrive we’ll get more details out.

Vanilla Junior skates are getting closer. One batch has arrived in the USA, but they’re facing delays getting it shipped from the port, there just isn’t enough capacity to get everything that arrives to the final destination. The good news is they have landed in the USA and as soon as we receive them we’ll let everyone know.

We are unloading a shipment from Roller Derby right now. We should be getting:

 

Rewind – sizes 3-12. – These have been out of stock for a very long time, so it will be good to have them available again. A simple black high-top skate that was very popular when they were in stock.

 

Driftr – sizes 6-12 and a few 3 (sorry, but no 4 or 5). Another very popular, simple, black high-top skate.

Candi Girl 774 Carlin in three different colors.  Green/blue (we’ve had these before but most sizes were sold out), Peach/Pink (new for us) and Blue/Burgundy (also new for us).

We’re also expecting several other shipments over the next week or so.  We are hoping to get pink Fame skates, GT50 black, Lucy adjustables, Boardwalk Lavender skates, and some Stardust skates.  We’re also expecting some Bones wheels and Sure-Grip wheels, but we’re not sure yet exactly which models.

We just received a shipment from Roller Derby that looks like it has some good items in it. We will need a bit of time to pull the backorders out, but once that is done we hope to do another update.

Sure-Grip has a new 57mm version of their Boardwalk outdoor wheels that just arrived. We have pastel shades of green, blue, lavender, and pink.

The next Vanilla shipment is now expected for late June and it should have some versions of their Junior skates, but not all.

A shipment from Sure-Grip is on the way that should have some Malibu and Boardwalk skates. We’re not sure yet what colors or sizes.

Supplies remain very limited for a lot of items. Even finding out what is expected to arrive and when it will arrive is tougher than we’ve ever seen. We just walked through our warehouse and here are some items that are currently available, hopefully this is helpful. . .

We received a big shipment of GTX-500 skates. All black sizes are now back in stock. Almost all of the pink, green, and blue are in stock.

You may have seen a postcard from Roller Derby with specials on the Aero and QE7 rental skate for the upcoming RSA Tradeshow. These are great deals, but be sure to read the part about estimated delivery of the skates being in early 2022. These will not ship right away.

We just received a big shipment from Roller Derby.  We now have the GTX-500 black skates back in stock, all sizes.  This is probably our most popular skate, and it has been a long time since we had any of the popular sizes available, so this is great news.

 

We also received a big shipment from Chicago last week.  We still don’t have quite everything from them, but we’re in a lot better shape than we’ve been in a very long time.
