Warp Inlines and Prism Quads new speed skates and shiny quads

The Warp is a brand new inline speed skate for younger skaters.  They come in blue or pink versions.  The wheels are 85A hardness.  This is a good option for the smaller customers to get into speed skating without spending too much money.

Small – adjusts from sizes 12J-2, comes with 90mm wheels on a three-wheel 100mm frame

Medium – adjusts from sizes 2-5, comes with 100mm wheels on a three-wheel 110mm frame

The Prism is a new skate from Sure-Grip with a unique shiny prism look to the boots.  They’re somewhat similar in quality to the Stardust skates.  The plates are clear nylon and the wheels are the outdoor Motion wheels.  The boots are “pink confetti” or “purple lavish”.  These are going to be a good choice for skaters that do not want to blend into a crowd.  They are available in men’s sizes 5-9 and only for a limited time.

Tips for First Time Skate Buyers

Find Your Fit

Skates should fit the same way shoes do. Ideally, you’re generally looking for about 1/4″ to 1/2″ between the front of the boot and your big toe. Different brands and models run slightly differently, so it’s a good idea to check a brand specific sizing chart before ordering. If boot size is a concern, talk to your customer about buying a boot before buying an entire custom skate (so that they can return the boot if it doesn’t fit).

Also, make sure your customers are wearing proper socks when trying on skates!

Test Your Mounts

Short mounts are often used by Derby skaters. New skaters tend to feel less comfortable on this mount. Regular mounts are generally the preferred mount for new skaters. Long mounts are generally reserved for jam skaters to make tricks easier.

Of course, fitting skates for young skaters can be very difficult as children as constantly growing! That’s why we’re so excited about Warp Skates. All About Skate Mate Trainers

Skate Mate TrainerSkating is a great activity for people of all ages, but kids take to it especially well. Kids can actually start quite young – depending on the child and their level of coordination, sometimes children even as young as 2 or 3 can skate!

To make their first attempt at skating an enjoyable experience, start young kids off with Skate Mates! They’ll be able to practice their skills while still having some stability – similar to training wheels on a bike. Trainers are also a great way to bring in a little extra money in by charging an additional rental fee. They can be especially profitable if you plan a few events catering to preschool aged children.

What are Skate Mates Skate Trainers?

Skate trainers help younger skaters feel confident on the rink by adding a little extra stability. Essentially, Skate Mates are like little podiums on wheels that come in 4 sizes (X-Small, Small, Large, and X- Large). The skater stands inside the right angle of the trainer so that they can put each hand on the sides of the trainer. The skater can then push the trainer around the rink with them to help stay stable and get comfortable being on the rink.

Here are a few of our favorite classic novelty toys:

  • Whoopie Cushion –  A nice big whoopie cushion is every pranker’s favorite. A good whoopie cushion is sure to bring a laugh when deployed on the chair of an unsuspecting friend.
  • Paddle Ball – This old favorite is a classic! It even helps improve hand-eye coordination along with just plain being fun!
  • Jack and Ball Set – This classic game can trace its origins all the way back to ancient Greece and the game of knucklebones. Today’s version is made of rubber and plastic, but it is just as fun! There’s a reason this game has been so popular for so long.
  • Temporary Tattoos – Temporary tattoos are fun to apply and wear!
  • Mood Rings –  These groovy rings first became popular in the 1970s, but kids today love them just as much. Color changing rings are fun, and there’s a reason they’ve been popular for over 4 decades.
  • Candy Necklace – One part candy, one part toy, and one part children’s fashion accessory, candy necklaces are a fun way to snack and show off your winnings!

skate update – Vanilla shipment, new inline race skate documentary, skate mate pricing

A new shipment from Vanilla is on the way, and we should have more of the Vanilla Junior skates in stock by February 7.  We don’t know for sure which colors and sizes, but it should fill a lot of the holes in our inventory.

The Skate Mate Trainers are a great way to help kids gain confidence at the rink while at the same time helping rinks make some extra money.  They’ve been a huge success, with most rinks ordering extra Trainers a couple of weeks after their first purchase.  They’ve announced their first price increase in several years.  We’re holding the original price until February 11, but after that these will go up.  If you’re interested, please get an order in before the increase.

Warp-BlueWarp-Pink

There is a new documentary movie about roller skating that is generating some excitement.  It is produced by John Legend and has interviews with Salt N Pepa and Coolio, so some big names are involved.  It will air on HBO on Feb 18 at 8PM Eastern (and we’re guessing they’ll have other showings also).  We do NOT know what it is rated or much about the contents.  But with names this big behind it we feel like it has a real chance of generating some excitement.  We’ve posted a link to a preview of the movie on our facebook page here.  Feel free to forward that post on or tag friends in the post to try to generate some momentum within the skating community.

SKATE MATE PRICING

The Skate Mate Trainers are an excellent way to let beginners become more comfortable on skates while also generating a lot of revenue for the rinks that are renting them out.  Most of the rinks that try five or ten of the trainers end up ordering more of these after a few weeks because they’re so popular.

 

If you’ve been thinking about trying the Skate Mate Trainers or adding more to your fleet, now is a great time to act, because the prices are going to go up for the first time in several years.  We’re holding the original price for a few weeks before we go to the new price on Feb 11.

If not, now is the time to make sure your pro shop is well stocked with all the latest skate styles that your customers will be asking for. Here are a few hot styles to get your pro shop ready for 2019:

  • The Pacer Stratos- These traditional looking high tops are ideal as a first pair of skates for beginners. They have only been out for a couple months, and they’re shaping up to be very popular.
  • Sure-Grip Prism – These gorgeous glittery, holographic quads have only been out for about a month, but their vegan boots are sure to leave an impression moving around the rink.
  • Roller Derby’s Flux and Carver –  These clever inlines come with a removable base so that they can switch back and forth between inline and quad skates.

Don’t let your clients down in 2019! Skate Update – Bags, Comet, Vanilla inventory updates, new products coming in

Pacer has a new skate shaped bag in three great color combos.  These bags have a shoulder strap, ventilation holes, an ID pocket, and a larger side pocket.  They come in black with white, grey with red, or a real colorful donut/unicorn pattern.  The bags are in stock now.

We received a new shipment of Comet skates last week.  Right now we have all of grey Comet skates and all of the white except size 3.  We also still have a good supply of all sizes in the older silver version from our closeout sale.  We are out of the older closeout purple Comet skates and will not be getting more.

We talked to Vanilla skate and they gave us a few updates.  We should be getting a new shipment soon, hopefully by the end of January.  This will replenish the Vanilla Junior sizes we’re running out of.
